Free Download: My Reflective Journal for Self Improvement

It's 2018, a new year. Is it time for you to better yourself? Let's face it. No one is perfect so there's always room for improvement. With this in mind, I've created this journal for myself to be constantly trying to improve myself in my life, not only as a parent but as a person in general.

Ibn Al-Mubarak reported: Awn ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “A man advised his son, saying: O my son, you must be mindful of Allah. If you are able to be better today than you were yesterday and to be better tomorrow than you are today, then do so.” (Source: al-Zuhd wal-Raqa’iq 832)

This is something that as teacher I had to do all the time for each of my lessons. First, I had to plan the lessons for the day in a lesson planning book or 'journal'. I had to write down all the things that I will be doing and the things that the students will be doing, along with the resources used.

At the bottom of the page is a section for reflections on how the lesson went. At the end of each lesson, I had to write down my impressions like how it went, what was good about it or what didn't work and what could I do in the next lesson or for next year that could make it even better? It was a continual assessment of myself and my lessons. this was the only way to improve.

So I thought, if only there was a journal like this for improving in daily life. Which gave birth to this reflective journal. Unlike the lesson planning, you don't need to write down everything that you will be doing. It's not a planning journal but a reflective journal. To use it, you just reflect on your day and pick one moment during the day that you feel you can improve on. You write this down. Then you write about how you felt about it. The third component to what actions you could do to improve on it.

To avoid focusing only on the negative moments in your daily life, the second page of this journal asks you to write about what went well for the day. What you did that was good so you can continue to do it. This is not what you want to change. It's what you want more of so you'd want to acknowledge it. It creates a balance.

To kick off this year, I'm giving away the black and white version for free. This black and white version is easier for printing and there are only the two pages that you need to print as many times as you like for your journal. Print them, keep them in a folder and use them.

You'll notice that this journal has a leafy decor so it'll appeal to both males and females. (I haven't forgotten you fathers out there reading my blog.) For the females who like flowers, I've also made a floral version in both colour and black & white. These are available in my shop.

The leaf black and white is free here. If you buy then you get all four versions. Buy one for yourself and give the other one to your spouse. Buy now.
